Background
There are two tissue culture suites; each suite contains modern Binder CO2 incubators and MAT Class 2 containment cabinets.
The tissue culture team provides a service to the PhD students, Postgraduate researchers and staff members in the MRC unit. This involves growing and providing cell lines as requested, producing stable cell lines as needed and ensuring all users have the consumables they require.
We have the capability of making our own stable cell lines by transfection or viral infection which can be used both within the unit and in other academic institutes. Our storage facilities allow us to catalogue all cell lines made within the unit. Currently we have over 10,000 lines in cryogenic storage.
