Chemical biology – tools for the study of non-lysine ubiquitylation

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the lab of Dr Satpal Virdee whose lab has recently discovered a ubiquitin E3 ligase that carries out threonine ubiquitylation (Pao et al. Nature 2018). This project will involve the development of innovative and urgently needed tools for the study of this underappreciated posttranslational modification. Applicants with experience in chemical biology or chemistry are encouraged to apply. Candidate requirements:

- PhD, with outstanding academic track record and at least one first authored publication (or on track to publish) in an internationally recognized journal.
- Enthusiasm for multidisciplinary science
- Capable of working in a team, but able to plan and work independently.
- Excellent communication skills and knowledge of the English language.

MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (PPU):

This project will be performed in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC-PPU), based within the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee. The MRC-PPU is in a beautiful location overlooking the estuary of the River Tay and embedded within the School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee which is one of the premier Life Sciences research centres in the world.

The appointment will be made on the University of Dundee postdoctoral salary Grade 7 scale plus superannuation with initial placement depending on achievements and experience, but will be up to £35,211 (Spinal Point 32).

Appointment as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the Grade 7 salary scale is dependent upon you having been awarded a PhD. An appointment may be considered if you are shortly expected to be awarded a PhD. The initial appointment will be made as a Research Assistant on the Training Grade 7 salary scale (Spinal Point 28, £31,302).

The position is available immediately, fixed term period of 3 years with the possibility of extension.
