Much of the work of MRC-PPU researchers and their collaborators relies on the expression of recombinant proteins. These include enzymes such as kinases or phosphatases, components of the ubiquitylation system, substrates, proteins for biophysical analysis or antigens to raise antibodies.
Last year the E.coli expression team undertook around 1500 protein purifications, while the insect cell expression team made approximately 600 preparations, generating 0.1 to 300mg of recombinant protein for each purification. The teams also routinely produce around 160 different protein kinases and 20 lipid kinases required by the International Centre for Kinase Profiling to assess the specificity of protein kinase and lipid kinase inhibitors that are being developed.
Any protein reported in an MRC-PPU publication that was generated by the E.coli and insect expression teams should also be available to request by external users on a cost recovery basis. Please contact Hilary and James with any queries relating to this (contact details below).
Our E.coli and insect expression teams also have the capacity to generate recombinant proteins for external customers. To discuss your recombinant protein generation requirements and receive a quotation please contact Dr James Hastie (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Dr Hilary McLauchlan (email@example.com) by email or Phone (from UK 01382 38 8053, from outside UK +44 1382 38 8053).
