Tissue Culture
Tissue Culture

All groups within the MRC-PPU carry out a substantial amount of tissue culture. We have access to 25 tissue culture flow cabinets spread across four tissue culture suites. To aide with the smooth running of the tissue culture facilities we have a tissue culture team headed by Laura Fin and aided by Janis Stark and Alison Muir. The tissue culture team ensures that the facilities are well stocked and maintained in good order. Laura and her team also ensure that the thousands of cell lines cultured and generated by MRC-PPU staff are efficiently stored in liquid nitrogen and easily retrievable for use by MRC-PPU staff and collaborators. The team also cultures and maintains a stock of the most commonly used cell lines by researchers in the unit. This is a flexible facility and can be adapted to meet the changing needs of the unit. A regular mycoplasma testing service is provided to all staff in the unit and all new cell lines coming into the unit are tested and cleaned up if necessary. All new MRC-PPU staff attends a tissue culture induction course.

MRC-PPU PI Ian Ganley also plays a role in overseeing the tissue culture facility.
