I obtained a B.Tech in Biotechnology degree (with distinction) from Amity University (India) in 2011, and an MRes in Cancer Biology (with distinction) from the University of Dundee in 2012. Subsequently, I was awarded an Overseas Research Studentship from the University of Dundee and Medical Research Scotland to carry out out my PhD in the lab of Dr. David Meek, which I received in November 2016. My project involved studies on the regulation of the oncogenic protein kinase PIM1 by SUMOylation. I joined the Cohen lab in January 2017 as a postdoctoral researcher

I completed a Master’s in microbiology at the University of Madras, Chennai, India and then spent a year in the Division of HIV/AIDS at the National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis, Chennai working on the pharmacogenomics of antiretroviral therapy. In 2007 I joined a one year Master’s programme in Molecular Medicine at Queen’s University, Belfast, Northern Ireland which I passed with a distinction. I then carried out my PhD jointly at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland and the Pirbright Institute, Surrey, England. My PhD, which was awarded in October 2012, was focused on the characterization of the Ovarian Tumour (OTU) domain found at the N-terminus of Nairoviral L proteins. I joined Philip Cohen’s lab as a postdoc in September 2013.

I joined the Unit in March 2015 as a postdoctoral researcher. My goal is to investigate the role of salt-inducible kinase (SIK) signalling in macrophages.

Prior to moving to Dundee, I obtained my PhD from The Babraham Institute, Cambridge (England) in the lab of Dr Simon Cook, for research on the role of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) in the response to endoplasmic reticulum stress, with a focus on cell death following chronic stress.

In 2004 I obtained an MSci in Biochemistry from the University of Glasgow, my degree having included a one-year work placement with the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Between 2004 and 2008 I undertook PhD studies with Tricia Cohen in Dundee, investigating the roles played by the glycogen targeting subunits of Protein Phosphatase 1 in the tissue-specific regulation of glycogen metabolism. Following this I took up a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Arno Alpi, working on the molecular mechanisms and biological functions of the Ariadne family of E3 ubiquitin ligases. Between 2014 and 2015 I spent one year as a posdoc in the lab of Leonie Unterholzner looking at cytoplasmic DNA sensing in the innate immune response before joining Philip’s group in the MRC-PPU in January 2016.

I have worked as a pediatrician specialized in infectious and immune diseases, and in parallel carried out several scientific works. I obtained PhD by clinical analysis of congenital Cytomegalovirus infection, and studied for septic pathogenesis of neonatal Herpes Simplex Virus infection.

Aiming to gain scientific insights, I joined this lab in May 2015 after obtaining Uehara Memorial Research Fellowship in Japan. My project is to find the role of ABIN2 in innate immunity.

I joined the lab in March, 2008 as an MRC-funded postdoctoral researcher and have been working on the role of ABIN proteins in the innate immune signalling pathway leading to production of inflammatory cytokines. I discovered a key role for ABIN1 in preventing the development of autoimmune disease, which has recently been published (J.Exp.Med. 208, 1215-1228).

I received a Batchelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine in India before coming to the UK where I obtained my PhD in Molecular Biology from the Institute for Animal Health, Pirbright Laboratory, UK, working under the supervision of. Michael Baron. There I investigated the mechanism by which rinderpest virus (a close relative of measles virus) evades the host antiviral system, with emphasis on the antiviral effects induced by interferon.

I joined the lab in 2015 starting a 4-year Ph.D. funded by Medical Research Scotland and targeting IRAK2 and IRAK3 pseudokinases as potential new candidates for drug therapy.

Prior to moving to Dundee, I obtained B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Biochemistry at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. I carried out my Master’s thesis in the lab of Prof. Alfred Wittinghofer at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology, Dortmund, Germany, where I focused on the biochemical and structural characterization of proteins associated with the Bardet-Biedl syndrome and ciliary trafficking.

I am Chinese and obtained my B.Sc. in biochemistry at the University of HAN (the Netherlands) in 2011. During this period, I carried out a one year internship in Philip Cohen's lab at the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit in Dundee. I then spent two years as a PhD student at Purdue University, Indiana, USA where I focused on development methodologies related to phosphoproteomics. However, realising that I was much more interested in cell signaling research, I decided to move back to Dundee and carry out my Ph.D. in the Cohen lab, which I rejoined in June 2013.
