The Great Scottish Run: MRC PPU in support of Marc van Grieken’s fundraising efforts to fight Parkinson’s disease

On Sunday, 29 September 2019, researchers and friends from the MRC PPU including Professor Dario Alessi ran the Glasgow 10K race as part of Marc van Grieken’s “Shaky Team from Shaky Toun” to raise awareness and money for research into Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s disease affecting 6 million people worldwide and 12,000 individuals in Scotland alone. What is needed most are treatments that slow or prevent the underlying neurodegenerative process, associated symptoms and impact on quality of life. Here at the MRC PPU we are working hard towards making critical contributions to biomedical research into Parkinson’s disease as a deeper understanding of the condition will eventually help finding a cure!
