The MRC PPU is the only research institute in the world dedicated to the study of the two post-translational modifications used most frequently to regulate protein functions in living cells. With over 200 scientific and support staff carrying out research on protein phosphorylation and protein ubiquitylation, the MRC PPU also generates hundreds of new reagents and new services in these areas every year to enhance its own research. Last year, MRC PPU acquired the assets of the company Ubiquigent and has now combined them with MRC PPU reagents and services to launch Ubiquigent +, an exciting new venture which aims to provide researchers and companies with thousands of reagents (DNA clones, proteins, enzymes and antibodies) at reduced prices, to enhance their ubiquitin research. Ubiquigent+ also provides the improved services that researchers and companies need to profile the activities and specificities of E2 conjugating enzymes, E3 ubiquitin ligases and deubiquitylases (DUBs). These services can also be deployed to characterise inhibitors of these enzymes that are being developed as potential drugs to treat diseases caused by deregulation of the ubiquitin system.
