Open days and festivals

We open our doors to the Unit to raise awareness of the importance of our research in understanding health and disease and to inspire the next generation of researchers in our local community.

An example of an open day can be seen in the below video, when we opened our doors to share our research with the public as part of the 2018 MRC Festival of Medical Research. We gave people an opportunity to follow lab tours, listen to talks from our PhD students and try out some of lab kit for themselves.

Four of our PhD students gave a ten-minute talk about their work to public visitors at this 2018 MRC Festival of Medical Research open day. Our guests had a lot of questions for the team ranging from ‘does everyone get dementia when they get older? to ‘what would happen if your body didn’t have any amino acids?’.

You can watch their talks again here.
