I am a crystallographer by training. I love to visualise the biological process in its molecular depth. During my PhD I identified and characterized rRNA methyl-transferases and cell wall hydrolases from M. tuberculosis. My interest in understanding the complicated biological process drove me to MRC PPU at Dundee University. At MRC PPU, in Prof Walden’s group, my work helped in understanding of the regulatory mechanism of Parkin E3 Ubiquitin ligase, an important enzyme in Parkinson’s disease. My work demonstrated how PINK1 mediated phosphorylation of Ser65 on Ubiquitin or UBL (ubiquitin like domain) of Parkin releases the auto-inhibition of Parkin, and how Parkin catalyse ubiquitination as RBR E3 ubiquitin ligase. Carrying forward my interest in this field I have joined a joint post-doctoral position between Dr. Miratul Muqit and Prof Daan Van Aalten.
