Carine completed her PhD at the University of Bordeaux, where her research focused on the kinetics of the human mitochondrial ADP/ATP transporters expressed in S. cerevisiae. After one year teaching/research position in Cell Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Bordeaux II, she subsequently undertook postdoctoral training at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB-FORTH) in Crete between 2004 and 2006, working on mitochondrial membrane protein import, followed by two further postdoctoral research positions at the University of Leeds investigating the structure-function relationship of an ABC transporter and vacuolar trafficking (2006-2015).
From 2015 to 2023, Carine held an academic appointment first as Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences and from 2017 as Reader in Cell Biology and Biochemistry, where she established and led an independent laboratory investigating natural nanoparticles for drug delivery in the CNS. In 2023, she transitioned to the Drug Discovery Unit, at the University of Dundee, working as a Scientific liaison Manager and Project lead, fostering collaborations between the DDU and other partners, including MRC-PPU. She is joining the Muqit Laboratory as a Senior Project Coordinator. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (FRSB) and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
