I am pursuing my PhD studies at the S. N. Pradhan Centre for Neurosciences at the University of Calcutta (Kolkata) under the guidance of Prof. Jharna Ray. My PhD focuses on the genetics of Parkinson’s disease in two different aspects - mitochondrial integrity and synaptic transmission. For mitochondrial integrity, I mostly focus on the PINK-1 and DJ-1 genes whereas for synaptic transmission my interest lies in the genes VMAT-2 and DAT-1. I have undertaken both mutational and association analysis. I joined the Muqit lab in May 2017 through the Newton-Bhabha PhD Placement Programme and my goal is to undertake functional analysis of novel PINK1 mutations I have identified in patients with Parkinson's.
