On October 1st 1969 Philip Cohen became a postdoc in Edmond Fischer’s lab at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA and started his research on protein phosphorylation.

On Sunday, 29 September 2019, researchers and friends from the MRC PPU including Professor Dario Alessi ran the Glasgow 10K race as part of Marc van Grieken’s “Shaky Team from Shaky Toun” to raise awareness and money for research into Parkinson’s disease.

Hannah Tovell, a PhD student in Dario Alessi's lab, working in collaboration with Claire Crafter (AstraZeneca) and Alessio Ciulli and Andrea Testa in the Ciulli lab, have elaborated a compound that we have termed SGK3-PROTAC1 that induces selective degradation of SGK3 protein kinase.

On 21st August, MRC PPU proteomic research manager, Dr. Houjiang Zhou, delivered a distinguished alumni lecturer in DICP, China.

Kristin Balk, who has been undertaking research in Miratul Muqit’s lab funded by a J Macdonald Menzies Charitable Trust Prize Studentship, has successfully defended her PhD. During her studies Kristin has developed improved methods to study PINK1 signalling in cell lines and applied this to uncover a role for mitochondrial E3 ligases in the generation of Phospho-ubiquitin.

MRC PPU Reagents and Services are delighted to announce the official launch of our new custom sheep Polyclonal Antibody Production Service.

We have been producing antibodies for over 25 years and during this time period have raised in excess of 2500 different sheep polyclonal antibodies, which have been critical to the research publications generated by MRC PPU.

Congratulation to Beatrice Filippi for being awarded a very prestigious MRC Career Development Fellowship (£1.4m) to support her research for the next 5 years to investigate how an area of the brain called Dorsal Vagal Complex (DVC) senses insulin and controls glucose metabolism and feeding behavior in animals.
