Congratulations to Ana Belen Perez Oliva on being awarded Spain's most prestigious JIN (Jovenes INvestigadores/Young Researchers) fellowship to establish an independent research programme at the University of Murcia.

Ana undertook postdoctoral research in the MRC PPU between 2011-2015 in Dario Alessi's lab, where she worked on deciphering the role of the USP45 deubiquitylase.

After leaving the MRC PPU, Ana led an independent research group in Janssen Pharma (Beerse, Belgium) to study lung cancer.

In 2016 Ana obtained a Juan de la Cierva incorporation Spanish Government fellowship and Talent reincorporation position to undertake independent research at the University of Murcia, Spain, with Dr. Victor Mulero as mentor.

With the JIN award, Ana plans to follow up some of her current research that has identified a new role for the inflammasome in the regulation of hematopoiesis exploiting a zebrafish model that was recently published in Immunity: (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6886364/). Ana now plans to explore the role that the inflammasome plays in the pathogenesis of neutrophilia and anemia associated to chronic diseases and also identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets to treat these conditions.
