We are delighted to share that Elton Zeqiraj has been awarded the Biochemical Society Award for Sustained Excellence.
Elton, a former PhD student of the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC PPU), now based at the University of Leeds, is recognised for his outstanding and sustained contributions to our understanding of ubiquitin signalling and metabolic regulation. His work has been instrumental in redefining how ubiquitinating enzymes are regulated through allosteric mechanisms, leading to the development of innovative reagents and tools that are widely used across the field.
In addition, Elton has made major contributions to elucidating the molecular mechanisms controlling glycogen synthesis through pioneering structural and functional studies. His laboratory is now at the forefront of structural biology, applying advanced cryo-electron microscopy approaches to address fundamental questions in cell signalling.
Elton is also widely recognised for his collaborative approach, working closely with researchers across disciplines to translate mechanistic insights into biomedical innovation.
We warmly congratulate Elton on this well-deserved recognition.
