We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as Biological Services technician, grade 4.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join the MRC Genotyping team. The full-time position will involve the genotyping of tissue samples via PCR, and various other lab tasks, such as formulation of buffers, operation of automated imaging systems, data input and general lab housekeeping.
The successful candidate must be personable, approachable and be an excellent communicator, as regular interactions with staff at all levels, and across many teams, is required on a daily basis.
A desire to continually develop with the role, as new methods arise. Personal development, with respect to theoretical knowledge and hands on techniques, is actively encouraged and supported. Staff members are also encouraged to work across groups to provide practical training where necessary.
Your priorities will include:
Genotyping of tissues and cells
General laboratory tasks
Who we’re looking for:
- Preferably educated to HNC level in a relevant scientific subject such as molecular biology, genetics or related biological sciences. Candidates with equivalent work experience will also be considered.Essential – experienced in regulated procedures, or complex tissue dissections during in vivo studies, and be aware of study planning requirements.
- Previous experience working in a busy laboratory environment would be advantageous.
- A knowledge of the required health and safety requirements in a laboratory or scientific environment.

This position is an MRC Core funded post and is linked to the funding cycle of MRC Units. The initial funding review is March 2024 with reviews every 5 years after this.
