We are recruiting a highly motivated Technician to join the laboratory of Dr Kirby Swatek in the Medical Research Council Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit at the University of Dundee.
The Swatek lab aims to understand the roles of ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like modifications in the antiviral response. These modifications have emerged as critical regulators of the signalling pathways that sense and respond to invading pathogens. The ubiquitin-like protein, ISG15, is highly upregulated in response to viral infection and labels thousands of proteinsto help shape the host defenceresponse. However, the mechanisms underlying ISG15's contribution to antiviral immunity remain largely unknown. Therefore, studying ISG15 signalling has the potential to unlock exciting new areas of biology.
The successful applicant will assist in the lab's day-to-day operations, which will include maintaining cell lines, insect and mammalian protein expression, and routine biochemical and biophysical assays.
Furthermore, the post-holder will help maintain supplies, databases, and critical equipment in the laboratory.
This post is fixed term until no later than 30 March 2024.
Your priorities will include:
- Cloning, expression, and purification of proteins (~50%)
- Maintaining insect and mammalian cell lines (~20%)
- Assisting other lab members (~lo%)
- Documenting experiments and generating standard operating procedures 10%)
- Maintaining laboratory supplies, databases, and equipment (~5%)
- Biochemical and biophysical assays(~5%)
